Achieving SDGs pivotal for regional progress, development: Convener Romina

ISLAMABAD: Convener of National Parliamentary Task Force on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Romina Khurshid Alam said both Sri Lanka and Pakistan shared same challenges like climate-induced emergencies, poverty and other socioeconomic issues.

Expressing views in meeting with Sri Lankan delegation led by its State Minister for Finance Priyanatha here at Parliament House, she said achieving SDGs was win-win situation for both countries. Sri Lankan state minister expressed solidarity with people of Pakistan who had been facing devastating impacts of recent floods in country. He said mutual cooperation and unanimous approach essential to transform regional socioeconomic challenges into opportunities.

Convener SDGs Romina also sought cooperation of Sri Lanka for students’ exchange programme and enhancing business-to-business contacts between both countries. She pointed out that health sector in Pakistan could learn lot from success stories of Sri Lankan health sector, especially in area of training world’s best midwives. Meeting was attended by member of National Assembly Zahra Wadood and senior officers of Parliamentary Task Force on SDGs. Later ont Sri Lankan delegation visited National Assembly Hall.
