5.6 intensity quake jolts Peshawar, other parts of KP

ISLAMABAD: Earthquake tremors of 5.6 intensity jolted Peshawar, Kohat and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), epicenter of earthquake was 237 km away from Chitral in west. Depth of earthquake was 190 km and its magnitude on Richter scale was 5.6.
Earthquake jolts were felt in Battagram, Mohmand, Swat, Charsadda and other areas of KP. No loss to life has been reported after earthquake. It is to be mentioned here that tremors relatively closer to surface are likely to bear long-term adverse effects on buildings. Last year in December, an earthquake of magnitude 4.1 jolted Karachi. Earthquake of this magnitude in Karachi shocked seismic experts as they had never earlier recorded an earthquake of such an strength with epicenter within provincial capital city.
