'3,100 houses construction completes for flood affectees', says Nasir Shah

KARACHI: Sindh government has completed construction of 3,100 houses in District Sukkur. This initiative is part of broader scheme under Sindh People's Housing Scheme for Flood-Affected People, which aims to build total of 83,417 houses across province.
Keys and ownership documents for these newly built homes were formally handed over to beneficiaries by key officials. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah Minister for Energy in ceremony held in village Peer Muhammad Jagirani near Rohri handed over keys. Government spokesperson and Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh and Chairman District Council Sukkur Syed Kumail Haider Shah distributed house keys and ownership certificates to 100 flood affectees.
Deputy Commissioner Sukkur M.B. Rajar was present. Nasir Hussain Shah informed media that, under guidance of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh government has launched housing project, aiming to construct 2.1 million houses for flood affectees across province.
This project will bring relief to around 10 million people in Sindh and is expected to be completed within two years. He noted that while floods had affected hundreds of thousands of people in other provinces, only Sindh government, led by Pakistan Peoples' Party, was actively engaged in rebuilding homes.
He mentioned that bank accounts for 800,000 families had been activated and process of transferring funds in installments had begun. Some families had received one or two installments, while others had received their third or fourth installment.
He stressed that, along with Chief Minister, their goal was to ensure transparency in the project, enabling flood-affected families to have secure roof over their heads. Further, he mentioned that Hands is overseeing construction of homes for flood-affected individuals in Sukkur, with financial support from Sindh government, World Bank and other organisations.
He emphasied that construction process prioritizes essential amenities like water supply, drainage, sanitation, and healthcare facilities to ensure healthy living environment. SBarrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh spokesperson for Sindh government and Mayor of Sukkur said that Pakistan Peoples' Party's, under leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was fulfilling its promise to provide homes to flood affectees.
He said that construction of 2.1 million homes was clear testament to fact that Party believed in serving people. Peoples' Housing Project will not only provide shelter to affected people but also create employment opportunities. "Building robust infrastructure to mitigate impact of future natural disasters and floods is our foremost priority, ' he added.
During briefing, it was revealed that construction targets for Sukkur district include 83,417 houses, with 12,819 houses planned for Taluka New Sukkur and Sukkur City, 26,515 houses being built for flood victims in Taluka Rohri, 27,119 houses targeted for Pano Akil taluka and 16,954 houses under construction in Saleh Pat taluka.
Nasir Hussain Shah talking to media said that construction work of houses for flood affectees has been expedited across province and ownership rights are being given to affectees. In response to question, he said that whoever comes on merit, Party has given them employment, despite facing obstacles and having to answer in courts, but we have been giving jobs on merit, no injustice will be done to candidates who passed IBA test, their process is ongoing, they don't need to protest as Sindh government is working on it for them.
He stated that if IMF has set condition, federal government should offer an alternative solution. He emphasised urgent need to revisit IPP agreements. PTI must abandon its chaotic political agenda. He added terrorists attacked Bannu Cantt and. He said DG ISPR has brought facts of Bannu incident to light.
