ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court in Islamabad will hold a hearing on the £190 million reference against PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, tomorrow.
However, the court will not announce its verdict as originally expected. The court staff has informed PTI's legal team about this decision, and a new date for the verdict will be scheduled. Previously, the Accountability Court had reserved its verdict in the case after the prosecution and defense teams presented their arguments. The final decision was anticipated to be announced on December 23, following nearly a year of hearings. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) initiated an investigation into Imran Khan and his wife for allegedly acquiring vast amounts of land in the name of the Al Qadir University Trust. The charges allege that this resulted in a loss of £190 million to the national treasury.
Specifically, it is claimed that Imran Khan and others involved misappropriated Rs50 billion (equivalent to £190 million at the time) that had been sent by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) to Pakistan's government. In December 2019, Imran Khan established the Al-Qadir University Trust, and the NAB filed a corruption reference against him and seven others, including Bushra Bibi, in connection with the project. The case revolves around alleged financial misconduct and the misuse of public funds.
