GAZA: Israeli bombardment in Gaza has revived global push for Palestinians to be given state of their own, AFP reported.
Slovenia became latest country to recognise state of Palestine, breaking with long-held view of Western powers that Palestinians can only gain statehood as part of negotiated peace with Israel. This follows same move made last week by Spain, Ireland and Norway.
Their action, which has infuriated Israel, means that 146 out of 193 UN member states now recognise a Palestinian state. They include most Middle Eastern, African, Latin American and Asian countries, but not United States, Canada, majority of Western Europe, Australia, Japan or South Korea.
In April, United States used its veto at UN Security Council to prevent Palestinian bid to become full UN member state.
On other hand, more than 36,586 Palestinians have been martyred and 83,074 have been injured in Israeli military offensive on Gaza since October 7, Gaza Health Ministry said in statement, Reuters reported. Toll includes at least 36 deaths over past 24 hours, statement added.
Gaza Health Ministry's Munir al-Bursh has called for more fuel to be delivered into northern Gaza as medical teams return to work at Indonesian Field Hospital, Al Jazeera reported. "[Israeli forces] destroyed health sector in northern Gaza," he told Al Jazeera.
"We are calling on world to bring diesel fuel into northern Gaza, we are working at minimum."
