13 dead as loaded truck rolls onto passengers coach

LAHORE: Thirteen people including women and children died while five others sustained injuries when a truck loaded with sugar and wheat bags overturned on a passenger coach near Feroza Town of Rahimyar Khan.

According to details, mishap occurred on a road which had developed potholes and had been damaged for long time. Accident happened when truck coming from opposite direction lost its balance fell onto coach, which had been stuck in a rainwater-filled deep ditch. Witnesses said that heavy machinery was employed to extricate wreckage of coach from under truck.

Rescue 1122 officials maintained that 18 people had been travelling in bus. They said 13 bodies and five injured had been shifted to Rural Health Centre in Feroza.

Expressing regret over loss of lives, Deputy Commissioner Moosa Raza directed authorities concerned to ensure provision of best medical facilities to injured.

Meanwhile, angry residents of area pelted stones on vehicle of Liaquatpur assistant commissioner who reached accident site. They complained road is damaged due to sewerage for past several years but authorities paid no heed towards it.
