12.5m people have become homeless in Sindh, says CM Murad

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah Sunday said that 12.5 million had become homeless in Sindh, adding that agriculture and livestock sectors suffered a loss of billions of rupees. Talking to media after fateha and laying floral wreath at grave of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on his 74th death anniversary he said, “It may take more than three months for rainwater to drain,” efforts were being made to ensure cultivation of wheat crop till November or December. “At many places in Sindh, there has accumulated 8 to 10 feet of water,” he told media. “Secretary General of United Nations said he has never seen such destruction,” he added. Earlier, he and acting Sindh Governor Siraj Durrani paid homage to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
“We pay homage to Quaid-e-Azam. We also pray for freedom of Kashmiris,” he said. “Flooding and rainfall have destroyed thousands of houses in Sindh with around 1500 deaths,” he added said. “People have lost livestock of around 50 billion rupees,” he said. “Around 350 billion rupees losses to farmers reported in province”. “We have asked United Nations Secretary General not about funds, but need of medicines and other essential items,” he said. “We have devised programme for rehabilitation,” he said. “In Karachi 18,000 people have reached and government have a record of it”. Commenting on power load shedding in scorching weather, he said,” We have communicated to prime minister and power division that we are not satisfied with performance of power supply companies.
