KARACHI: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decided to deploy Pakistan Army outside polling stations in upcoming by-elections for Karachi’s NA-245.

ECP in its letter to defence secretary sought deployment to prevent any untoward situation due to law and order problem.  According to letter, ECP asked to deploy Army from July 26 to 28.

Last week, ECP had issued schedule for NA-245, which fell vacant after death of PTI MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain. As per ECP schedule, by-polls will be held on July 27, while candidates can submit their nomination papers from June 22 to June 24. Election Commissioner said that Syed Nadeem Haider has been appointed as returning officer for by-election.
