Country’s precious foreign exchange be saved, says PM BAN ON LUXURY ITEMS IMPORT

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif yesterday said that the decision to ban the import of luxury items will save the country’s precious foreign exchange, vowing to take similar measures to overcome the economic challenges at hand.

“We will practice austerity and financially stronger people must lead in this effort so that the less privileged among us do not have to bear this burden inflicted on them by the PTI government,” PM Shehbaz said in a Twitter post.

He added: “Together we will overcome all the challenges with resolve and determination, InshaAllah!” Shortly after the PM’s tweet, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb told media persons in Islamabad that the ban on the import of 38 non-essential luxury items had been announced under an “emergency economic plan”.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will arrive in Karachi on a day-long visit today. During his stay, PM Shehbaz will attend Pakistan Navy’s ceremony said well-placed sources. PM will also chair a special meeting on law and order situation in Karachi during his day-long visit.
